Ultimate Magic – The Experience
At approximately, 7pm on September 27th! Vogue and I were at…
We had finally managed to beat the traffic congestion to make it there in time! Since we arrived pretty late we got the side seats. The setting was really cozy and comfortable. Prior to the show, Matthew, one of the crew members was performing magic to entertain the crowd, and he was wrapping up with his last few tricks as the show was about to begin. Vogue and I started to feel excited, after weeks of planning, saving up money, and setting out a common free time! It has led up to this moment…
The show overall was fantastic, sure i mean there were parts where i thoughts that things weren’t as good as i expected it to be, but as I thought about it, doing a show in such a context- A bar/club with very limited space and such close up audiences, it was definitely a show of high quality. I’m certain J C Sum and Ning would keep the show dynamic and keep on improving. Ultimate Magic can only get better and better!

After the show, Vogue and I caught up with J C Sum and Ning, We told J C that we were coming down for the performance that day and the on stage cool and calm magician’s aura soon faded and he turned into a very warm and passionate guy. It was at this point whereby we got word from J C that Ning burned her mouth during a routine in the performance. Ouch. Hope you are feeling better now Ning! We were privileged enough to get the chance to tour the Ultimate Magic Backstage! It was pretty impressive how they managed to squeeze so much big area props inside such a confined area.
We also managed to snap a few shots with them but its for our own personal view only! Also, Ning agreed that if RDM organizes any magic-related magic event that benefits the overall magic community in Singapore, She would be glad to sponsor us! Haha. So anyway, after J C and Ning wrapped up the set (signing fan’s autographs, clearing the stage, keeping their props), The four of us sat down for a good chat at MacDonalds.
We had a good and hearty chat, J C and Ning were both really passionate about Magic as we started to delve into topics such as the commercial value of magic, how magic is not mainstream enough in Singapore, questions about Ultimate Magic, and some random gossips about the magic community and themselves! It was really an enriching experience. Feeding from their enthusiasm for the art, I myself somehow feel renewed and ever so motivated to be a Magician for the art.
This is because in everything, we are always shown only the glamorous side of a thing, and often when we ourselves are interested and go deeper into it, we often get caught surprised by the amount of sacrifices, time and effort it requires. For a magician, it is the same thing, just for the one hour performance, J C and Ning had to plan for almost half a year for it! Now as we watch the glamourous show in action, we should also appreciate it based on how much off stage effort was needed to make that happen.
It was truly a enriching experience from the show itself and from the chat with J C and Ning. We would put below the transcript of selected questions from our chat with them! This is Thor and Vogue, signing off with an amazing night out at Ultimate Magic, and be sure to catch it and support your local magician celebrities!!
