“My Magic” a charitable and outstanding movie (MADE IN SINGAPORE)
The movie was the first Singapore film to be invited to take part in the prestigious Palme d’Or ( Golden Palm) competition at the Cannes Film Festival in May. It has also been selected by the Singapore Film Commission (SFC) as Singapore’s official entry to the Oscars, making it the third Singapore film submitted for the Oscars.
The upcoming charity premiere of Eric Khoo’s latest film, My Magic, has raised $200,000 for the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.
Some 600 people are expected to be at the screening taking place at Golden Village Vivo City on Sept 25. The largest sponsor for the event is J.P. Morgan’s Private Bank which donated $50,000.
My Magic is a mostly Tamil drama about an alcoholic magician (Bosco Francis) who attempts to mend his ways and improve his relationship with his son. The movie has mostly Tamil dialogue, with some Hokkien. It was recently selected by the Singapore Film Commission for official entry to the Oscars.
Director Khoo said that the contribution to Straits Times Pocket Money Fund was “very apt” as the boy in the movie is neglected by his father and struggles to earn his own pocket money.
There are 50 tickets priced at $50 each for sale to the public for the special screening on Sept 25. The movie will be officially shown at cinemas on Sept 26.
