Using RDM


RedDotMagic 1.0

As RedDotMagic boasts much more features both new and old, I figured that a walk-through on the site would be useful in allowing you to know more about us, our style, about the function and meaning behind this whole concept.

Attached below is the screen shot of the whole website, complete with annotations, open it in another window and let’s get started!

1. RedDotMagic Logo

The RDM logo comprises of 3 colours: Red, White and Black. The colours red and white represent the our nation, Singapore, in which this site focuses on – Adding more vibrancy to our local magic scene. The black colour surrounding the logo symbolizes the aura of mystery, which is so vital, in the art of magic.

2. Nav/Sub-Nav Bar

The main navigation bar are for the pages of the site, namely:

  • Submit News – Use this page to submit news related to magic to our site! For magicians who have press-releases, new products/inventions/ or events to announce, please use this section to contact us so that we can help spread the news. Or if we have overlooked anything newsworthy, kindly submit to us via this page.
  • History of Singapore’s Magic – A joint collaboration between Concept:Magic and RedDotMagic, this page serves to inform our readers on the past of Singapore’s magic scene. If you do know of any inaccuracies and factual errors, please contact us via the submit news page.
  • RDM Calendar – This calendar marks down all the events happening in the magic scene, locally and internationally. You can click on the post or go to the upcoming events section to obtain more information on the events. Once again if you have any events you would like us to help you share, contact us via the submit news page.
  • More About RDM – This page links to all the other pages in which you get more information regarding this site. RDM Archive lists down all the posts from the start of this website. It also lists our mission and the frequently asked questions. This page is self-explanatory :)

The sub-navigation bar lists down all the categories in our site. Click on a category and it brings you to the sub-category. Choose and click on the categories that interest you and start reading!

3. Search Bar

Can’t seem to find that particular posts you read before? This is probably the best place to find it. Try the RDM archive section too.

4. Featured Content Gallery

One new cool feature of the site is the Featured Content Gallery, or FCG for short. This lists all the latest and popular posts in RDM that we recommend reading. It also displays the text as a prelude to the post so that you can know more before you read the whole post. Visual people like myself would love this new feature.

5. RDM Feed

Sign up here for the RDM feed so that we can update you whenever there is a new post on the site. This is really useful as it saves you the hassle from checking back to see if the site has been updated with new content.

6. Featured Video

View top-notch magic performances or magic videos without even leaving the site! RDM regularly changes the featured video so be sure to watch this space.

7. RDM Double Column Category Viewer

This design was inspired for the readers so that upon scrolling down, you can see the latest posts of all the 4 categories including pictures and short snippets of the post – In a bird’s eye view.

8. Ads

Revenue from Ads fund the site. So be sure to click on the ads that interest you :)

9. RDM Single Column Category Viewer

Below the double column category viewer is the single column category viewer. This is where you get more details on 2 categories with bigger pictures and longer snippets. Cool huh!

10. Recent Posts

This is where you can go to find all the newest posts in RDM from all categories. The latest posts will get priority and get posted in this tiny space.

11. Comments

This is where all the magicians in the house gets their voices heard. You can comment about anything and everything under the sun. Ask questions, answer them, encourage other magicians, give your feedback, etc. We want to hear from you!

12. External Links

This small section is where we recommend other cool and useful magic sites around the net.
